No Gym Needed

After eating breakfast and letting myself digest, I was itching for a workout.

I pretty much had all the time in the world because I have no classes on Wednesday’s. However, I did not feel like going to the actual gym.

Although I have a membership to the gym that is directly across from my house, going there and getting on the elliptical or dealing with the weight room just did not appeal to me.

My roommate has a pair of 5lb dumbbells so I decided to take that and roll with an at home workout.

All you need:

  • Something to lift (dumbbells or anything you have on hand)
  • Laptop
  • Space to workout
  • A sweat towel (you will need it)

This space looks really small, but honestly it was enough for me.

I started off by doing this circuit workout and it was just as good at home as it would be in the gym.

It took me around 35 minutes to complete and it was a great workout. I decided to try the second day of the bodyrock.tv challenge since I tried the fitness test last week.

The body rock video today was 12 minutes of high intensity cardio using mostly your own body.

Right up my alley to round out my at-home workout.

I’ll admit, I seriously underestimated this workout. I mean, how hard can 12 minutes be?

Whew! It got me even sweatier and out of breath than I expected. It definitely kicked my beeeehind! I love those kind of workouts though. Give it a try if you’re looking for something new.

Sweaty hair, check.

This just goes to show you that you don’t need a gym to get a great workout!

Post-workout was a protein smoothie! I used another GNC lean shake, vanilla bean flavor.

  • Frozen banana
  • Frozen berries
  • Almond Milk
  • GNC Protein Powder
  • Ice

It was super thick I ate it in a bowl with a spoon. Topped with love grown granola. So yummy!

Do you like at home workouts?

If you have your own dumbbells, where did you buy them?

Smoothie in a bowl or in a cup?

  1. The only at home workouts that I do are riding my bike trainer and core workouts. Everything else is done outside or at the gym!

  2. I mostly only work out at home. I use the treadmill every day (lately) to get my cardio in but I hate it. I use weights (that I got from Wal-mart) and I do those little work outs you can find in magazines and yoga dvds. I very rarely ever go to the gym but when I do all I use is the elliptical and a few weight machines (just to compete with my hubby)

My workouts are so boring!!! They need a major change. =/

  3. I do at home workouts when I am crunched for time and I have to. I have 10lb dumbells from my parents and 8lb dumbells from Best Buy…weird I know. I usually do workouts from magazines or on exercise tv from comcast. But I always get a better workout when I’m at the gym. I have a hard time staying motivated when my dog is running circles around me while I try ot workout lol.

  7. YEY Bodyrock!! Man, the 30 day challenge has been KILLING me lately. I feel you 100% on the fact that 12 minutes never seems like it could be that intense, but it always is! Especially on the strength days

  8. I like doing at home workouts at my house in my hometown because we have dumbbells and a bench. At my house at school I don’t have any equipment so that makes at home workouts a bit more complicated, but if I find a cardio-style circuit that I like then I’ll do one!

  9. The colour of that smoothie is ridiculous!! I want it right now! I’m with you on just not feeling the gym somedays. Even though I went to the gym for a leg workout today, I got really curious about the 30 day challenge so did the fit test (like I told you earlier!) and thought seven minutes would be no big deal. Proved me SO wrong!

  11. I’m not a big fan of at home workouts because I never have quite the same level of motivation that I have at the gym. :P

I like my smoothies in a bowl too! It makes me eat them slower rather than just guzzling them down.
