Trail Run and Home

Hey everyone! Thank you all for your well wishes with my stomach issues. It really means a lot to me!

I’ve been having some side affects with the medication, so I’m going back to my GI doctor tomorrow morning for another check up.

I’m thinking we may have to do some blood work =/ Side affects of my nausea medication? Nausea. What the heck?

That’s like saying take a medication for cramps but it may cause cramps. Um, okay… It also has other side affects which of course I’m getting them all. Yay! (Sarcasm).

Anyway, totally off topic here. One thing I did want to mention, is yes my GI doctor is not in Orlando. It’s back at home!

I’ve only been in Orlando for a couple of weeks, but I pretty much have to go home this weekend. I’m not complaining though, I get to kiss this little face.

Yeah, I can’t wait to see him. My heart is fluttering look at this picture (haha). And oh yeah, my mom too. Hi mom : )

It’s also my best friends birthday tomorrow! She’s turning 20. Holy cow, we’re getting old.

This is the only picture I could find of all of us (minus the guy in the middle).

I’m going down to my old hometown (about an hour from where my mom lives) to celebrate and see them. I am really excited to be reunited with all of them. It’s been way too long.

Another reason why I’m going home? I’m running a 10k on Saturday. I’m unbelievably nervous.

I wouldn’t be this nervous usually, but it’s a trail run and I may get muddy/wet. I have NEVER run on trails before.

I just really hope I don’t hurt myself. Knowing me, I will. I’m a klutz and don’t have the best of luck. But I’m trying to think positive.

Anyone have any tips for me? I’m probably just going to take it slow and focus. Should I wear my Garmin, or is that a bad idea? Help!

I wouldn’t have even signed up, but I need a proof of time so I don’t get put into the last corral for my half marathon.

I’d rather run a trail race than be put last for the half! That would just stress me out.

*Random fact: I always type out marathonG and have to erase the g. I have no idea why.

I’d also be lying to you if I told you I have been so eager to run lately. I don’t know what is up with me, but I’ve been waking up later and just opting for the treadmill because I didn’t feel like running.

What in the world made me think the treadmill was better than outside? I have no clue, but it has been so BORING. There, I said it.

Luckily, I got outside today and had a pretty good run.

It was gorgeous out, and a bit cool which was nice.

I just did 3.60 miles and called it a day. I’ve been lacking on stretching and foam rolling to, so that will need to take place in a little while.

I have a little over a month before my half, so it’s time to kick my butt into gear. Today’s run made me feel a little bit better thankfully.

Last but not least, if you’re making oatmeal anytime soon, use this method.

It is genius. Thank you, Chelsey. Look at these oats!

Okay, enough randomness for one post. I’m off to get ready for the day. Catch ya in South Florida!

How do you get motivated to run?

Anyone who’s done trail running before, any tips you’d like to share?

I will love you forever.

What is a word that you always type wrong on accident?

MarathonG.

  1. The way I am most motivated to run is with entertainment, weather or companionship. If there is a show on that I am excited to watch, the television with a treadmill parked right in front of it is perfect for me. When I want to run outside, having cool yet sunny weather, or having my husband/a friend run with me is the best motivation I can hav. And when none of these options are available? I try to remind myself how great I will feel once I get started and when I am done.. :-)

  2. good luck with your race! I actually love trail running! its a lot easier than running on pavement in my opinion, but at the same time you really have to watch where you step so you don’t trip! So my best advice would just be to watch your step!

  3. I have been running cross-country/trails for over 20 years and am happy to share some tips! You will find yourself looking at the ground a lot. You have to do this, to be sure you don’t trip and to see where to put your feet. You will be slower than the road. Be prepared to use your hands, so don’t carry anything in them. For instance, you may need to grab onto a tree on a downhill or pull yourself up on an uphill. Tie your laces tighter than usual, and tuck them in. Mud can suck your shoes off your feet, and your laces can get caught on debris. If there’s a stream crossing, just run through it rather than trying to rock hop, it’s easier and you’ll most likely get wet anyway. Get some trail socks. They’re a bit thicker than regular run socks but dry fast. I recommend Balega. OK, so all that aside, enjoy it! I love the trails and always forget I’m running when I’m out there. Be prepared to have to slow down a bit when it gets technical, but speed up on the flats. It’s a bit like a fartlek workout! And don’t worry, you will do great. Can’t wait to hear about it. :)

  4. I love trail running, my parents have great trails around their house. I would suggest looking a couple feet in front of you so you know where you are going to step.
Most of all, have fun. You are in shape and have been training so you should have no problem at all! Take your time and cross the finish line!

  6. Really hope your doctor figures out what’s causing the nausea! Haha I’m definitely the type that gets every side effect possible, so I know the feeling. If you ever need to talk, I’m always here!

Good luck on the trail run… sounds like a fun experience!

I love trail running! I have some pretty awesome merrell barefoot running shoes that I use. I’m super jealous of your weather right now. It’s about 10 degrees where I am so I’ve been stuck with treadmill runs lately.
