No Place Like Home

As much as I love traveling and going on vacation, there really is no place like home!

My mom and I had a six hour drive back to West Palm this morning and I am just now finally relaxing on the couch.

Our trip went from good to….interesting in a very short period of time.

Lets catch up a little, shall we?

The next day I woke up early and to a beautiful sunny beach.

I sipped on my coffee, had a little breakfast, and blogged while waiting for the rest of my family to wake up.

A few hours later, my mom woke up and a little while after that we decided to try and get some exercise.

I hadn’t worked out the past two days, which felt so nice, but I was definitely itching to get active!

We brought our rollerblades with us, so we figured we could try and get some use out of them.

We had a fun time checking out the neighborhoods and exploring. The houses we saw were absolutely gorgeous.

Everything was going fine until the last minute. My mom stepped in a ditch, in her rollerblades, and fell on the concrete and might have broken her wrist.

We just bought a splint from the drug store and she thought she was fine, so we went on with our day. More on that later…

I actually went on a little run/walk on the beach and did some bodyweight exercises and worked up a great sweat before lunch.

I wasn’t out too long, because the wind was SO STRONG. It was getting ready to storm and crazy people were kite boarding.

After lunch, we went to explore the downtown area.

It was a poppin’ place, and we just walked around and checked out the shops.

My brother went home after this, and my mom’s wrist started to hurt even more. I thought it would be best to just go to the hospital to get an x-ray.

To the ER we went. The doctor said it looks like a chip, so that is what they treated it as. She has a temporary cast for now, and we are going to the orthopedic tomorrow.

Once we got home and had dinner, we turned on the news and found out a tropical storm was coming our way. WTF.

Tropical Storm “Beryl” came straight towards Fernandina Beach.  All we could do was made the most of it and try to survive the night!

We tried to do a puzzle, watched the news, packed our stuff, and got ready for the morning.

It was a pretty crazy storm with howling winds, so I didn’t get much sleep last night. Fortunately, it calmed down a bit by morning so we woke up bright and early and hit the road to get the heck out of there.

The highway was super wet and rainy for a while, but finally we got to some clear skies.

A great little getaway turned into a series of unfortunate events, but hey, what can ya do?

It sure feels good to be home though!

Have you ever broken a bone?

I’ve broken my collar bone, dislocated my thumb, bowed my forearm, sprained my wrists too many times, broken my wrist, broken my nose twice, and I think that’s it? Haha

Do you exercise on vacation?

It isn’t my top priority, I only exercised once and it was short : )

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Spending time with my family !

  4. I’m sorry your mom got hurt! Hope she feels better soon. The only bone I’ve broken is my arm in kindergarten…I jumped off a swing and landed on it. Such a bummer the storm came in during your vacation! The beach does look beautiful, though

I heard about the storm, how crazy! Haha too cute that you roller bladed, I haven’t done that in at least 10 years. I sometimes exercise on vacations maybe once every 2 days, but I don’t let it get in the way of having fun with my family or friends. I’m for sure a homebody too, I always crave my home life and routine after being away for a couple days! I’m like you I’ve broken too many toes to count and fingers, my left wrist 3 times, right right 6 times, my foot, and elbow. God, I’m a walking mess ;)

  6. I was thinking about you today when I heard about the storm on the news! I’m glad you and your family were safe! And I’m SO sorry about your mom’s wrist; I know how painful that is. I sprained mine rollerblading when I was nine, and from then on, my mom made me wear every pad imagineable! I was the kid decked out in a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist pads etc etc. Getting injured became nearly impossible. Haha. This post is making me itch to go rollerblading again though. :)

I always try to get some type of exercise while I’m on vacation. A year or two ago, I felt like I HAD to go to the gym every day, so I’d find one while I was traveling. Now, I just enjoy where I am; if there’s an opportunity to go for a short run, bike ride etc., great. If not, I figure I can workout when I get home. xoxo

  7. I sometimes exercise on vacation if I have enough time, but if I don’t, then I don’t worry about it. Rollerblading sounds like a good way to exercise and have fun on vacation though! I’m sorry about your mom’s wrist – I hope it’s not too painful for her!

I think you’re one of the few that can pull it off. Sorry that your vaca was a bit of a sham but at least you got to spend some q time with your family! xoxo

  10. Oh wow, I hope your mom’s wrist feels better soon! That is definitely a series of unfortunate events….but at least you and your momma could share each other’s company! I try to exercise on vacation, but it’s usually MUCH more laid back.

  12. That’s a lot of broken bones! It’s weird, my boyfriend just broke one of his toes the other day. I broke my foot once playing soccer, but that’s it. I’ve sprained my ankles a million times, but I have really weak ankles apparently, so it happens all the time.

Sometimes is good to break the routine and go out, but I totally agree with you there’s not a place like home, the reason is that home is the place where we feel protected and safe, also where we are able to react and do something at any time.
