Completely Flooded

Sooo these past few days have been a whirlwind, to say the least.

Well, most of it happened yesterday. I think the biggest thing that happened was this..

That would be my apartment – flooded.

You can’t really tell there, but at least an inch or two of water.

I put some clothes in the wash and my roommate and I were both in our rooms doing homework. A little while later, there was banging on the door.

We thought it might be a UPS man or something until we opened the door and saw the flood. We were in shock and kind of stood there screaming like idiots until I braved the flood and ran through.

Luckily, one of the people that worked at the office happened to be walking by and saw the flood. We had maintenance in here draining the place and carpet cleaners ripping up the rugs and suctioning out the water.

We currently have about seven huge fans underneath the carpets airing it all out. Needless to say, it wasn’t a really great surprise.IMG_0124

Apparently, this has happened to multiple other people in our complex, so we weren’t the first ones, we were just the worst. The water leaked into my bedroom a bit, and my other roommates bedroom.

As bad as it was, it could have been MUCH worse, so I’m thankful that we found it before it got really bad and soaked all of our bedrooms completely.

On top of that, I’m stressed with midterms coming up and a few other things that has occurred at the same exact time.

Doesn’t that always happen? Yup. Anyway, I didn’t mean for this to be a novel, but I just wanted to update. I’ll definitely be back to normal posting hopefully soon!

Quick shout out to my roommate and best friend Sarah who’s 21st birthday was yesterday!!! (Yes, all of this ruckus happened ON her birthday – just our luck ha).

Has your house ever been flooded?!

When did it dry up?

  1. A water line broke in my old apartment and flooded into my closet and then kitchen at midnight the night before I had a 6am flight (I was getting up at 3am). I literally got no sleep that night because the maintenance people were in my apartment all night fixing the problem. Luckily I had wood floors and we caught it quickly so it was dry when I got home a few days later, but the carpet in the hallway outside my apartment had water stains and was still getting dried when I got home. It was definitely stressful, so I feel your pain! Hope everything works out and it dries up ASAP.

  2. Oh I can’t even imagine having a flooded apartment! I feel so bad. It must be a crappy month for renters. Our heat pump broke, forcing us to use our electric furnace which in turn made our electric bill skyrocket. And I have mice in my wall! Hopefully things turn around for you soon and the floors dry! #collegeproblems

  4. Ahh I’m so sorry about the flooding – that must have been so frustrating to deal with, especially when you were trying to study! I’m glad nothing was really damaged though.

I’ve never had to deal with flooding, thank goodness, but back in second year when I lived in a house with 5 other girls, the roof of one of the bathrooms collapsed! It was so annoying to have a bunch of construction men in our house for a week while we were in the middle of exams. :P

  5. That’s happened to us before at my house a few times and all I can say is DO NOT TURN OFF THE FANS. Even when you think it’s dry, keep it going. It’s the only way to make sure mold doesn’t grow. I don’t know what I’d do. I’d definitely be screaming like an idiot with you. And then call my mom haha

  6. Oh no! Definitely not a fun thing to deal with when you’ve got midterms on the brain.
My parent’s basement flooded pretty badly a few years ago due to some problems with the water pump…my brother had his bedroom in the basement at the time, so he says that he woke up and realized someone was wrong when he could hear the cat splashing and saw his laundry basket floating by his bed. That was not a fun couple of days!

  7. Aww what a pain! Sorry you are dealing with this girl. We actually had a huge leak the day we got back from our honeymoon! Our water softener on the second floor burst apart and flooded the ceiling and walls of our kitchen! Not fun and quite the way to be welcomed into the ‘real world!’

  8. Sorry to hear this! Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon!

I wish I could provide some insight, but at least everyone is okay!
I’ve never experienced a flooding before, but I know others who have and it’s definitely not a good time.
    Hope everything works out asap!
