What I Ate in Key West

Hi there! Happy Wednesday! Smile

I know I’m a littttle late to the WIAW party hosted by the lovely Jenn, but better late than never, right?

I got back from vacation not too long ago and this is the first time I’ve opened my laptop in a few days. Not going to lie, it was SO nice. It’s a little overwhelming coming home to a ton of emails and 350 unread in my Google reader! Ha. Oh well.

Anyway, I figured I share some things I ate while on vacation! I didn’t snap a picture of everything, but I did get some things.

First of all, whenever I travel I like to come prepared for whenever I get hungry. I think I did a pretty good job Winking smile

Tuna packets, almonds, walnuts, almond butter packets, quest bar, homemade protein bars, homemade turkey muffins, fruit, protein powder, stevia, etc.

When my mom and I first got there, we were hungry for lunch so we stopped at a cute little café. I was in the mood for eggs, so I ordered a salmon and caramelized onion egg white omelet – yum!! I’ve never had salmon in an omelet before but I loved it. It came with a side salad and whole wheat toast on the side. Hit the spot.

The room actually had a microwave, so I made oatmeal each morning and put protein powder in it, banana slices, and almond butter. IMG_0335

I literally had fish all weekend – apparently I was in the mood! This was one of the dinners which was swordfish and veggies. I haven’t had swordfish in forever.

Last but not least, my favorite meal! One day for lunch we wanted to scope out a new restaurant so I found the cutest little organic café.IMG_0319

If you’re ever in the keys, you HAVE to go here – it’s called Help Yourself. IMG_0328

I really wanted to try a fresh squeezed juice, so my mom and I ordered the fennel, green apple, cucumber, and mint. It was so refreshing!

For my meal I had the Ultimate salad which was mixed greens, sprouts, broccoli, avocado, tomato, dulse, hemp seeds, spicy pumpkin seeds, lemon tahini dressing. Deeeelicious.

My mom had the Indian Summer which was a creamy mix of chickpeas, quinoa, carrots, raisins, onion and curried cashews with Indian spices over mixed greens, house vinaigrette. This was even better in my opinion (obviously I tried it). So definitely both great choices!

Obviously the organic café was my favorite part Winking smile I love finding cute little places like that. I definitely enjoyed my stay and all the food we ate!

  4. I’ve never been but my grandparents go all the time. I usually pack some snacks for the airport and things but not foods that I would eat as a meal when I go away. Do you bring those things to restaurants when you go out too? Like the stevia instead of having real sugar put in things?

    • I definitely do NOT bring everything to restaurants!!! lol those are just for snacks.. I came a little too prepared and definitely didn’t eat it all ;) but I do bring my stevia for coffee !

  7. never been to Key West – it may have to go on the travel bucket list.

When I’m on vacation, I usually throw a couple of protein bars into my bag, but everything else I pick up there. Just easier that way, plus I kind of hate packing :-p

  15. What a fantastic spring break–and lineup of vacation eats! I always pack snacks when I travel, too, however I’ve learned that it’s best to keep it to a minimum when I’m flying because food can take up a lot of precious room in a suitcase! ;)

Your swordfish is drool-worthy! YUM. I’m also loving how cute Help Yourself cafe is; I want to go to Key West and eat lunch there with you! xoxo
